OMG HI!
CAT MOM, PHOTO WIZARD & GOOD VIBES GURU

Meet         Lexi

Needless to say, my heart broke. But it didn’t stay broken. I used the pieces to feed a fire building inside me. All at once, I realized, the photography business is oversaturated. But not for people like me.

There are a lot of things to love about the South. The food is unmatched, the culture is rich, and the people are generally very kind. However, for marginalized folks specifically, trying out local businesses can often feel like walking a minefield. It’s not just a matter of conflicted interests—it’s about safety. If you know, you know.

I feel so fortunate that fate guided us together so I could finally give them the pictures they deserve. Several months later, I got to shoot their engagement photos.

Those lovely women had gone years without photos of each other simply because they were afraid what might happen if they reached out to just any random photographer in Texas as POC lesbians.

Not to be blunt, but… white, straight folks just don’t worry about these things. They don’t have to. Except the thing is, no one should have to!

As much as the experience was important to them, it was also transformative for me. I guess that’s what people mean when they say they “found a calling.”

All because she felt unsafe.

For the longest time, I was simply a hobbyist. I’ve always been the type of girl with a camera in my hands (#fujifilmfangirl) on the lookout for my next angle. But I was very aware of how oversaturated the photography business is, so I never gave it a whole lot of thought as something I could do professionally. I was content to let art be art.

One gorgeously green St. Patrick’s Day, I ventured out into my local gayborhood with the hopes of snapping some fun holiday pics, when I was suddenly approached by a gorgeous woman in glitter-green eyeshadow.

“Hi, I know this is weird, but would you take pictures of me and my girlfriend?”

I was so tickled at the idea that I said yes immediately. No questions, I’m in! And that’s how I spent my St. Patty’s Day—trailing two beautiful ladies while they laughed and kissed and danced the night away. Not only was it the most fun I’d had in a long time, but it fed my soul like nothing else.

A couple days later, I emailed her the photos.
Her response changed my life.

She confessed these were the first nice photos of her and her girlfriend in their four years of being together. Not out of disinterest, but because of fear. She told me she had been too scared to reach out to local photographers.

The exclusively white, straight couples appearing in other photographer’s portfolios was a red flag. Paired with Bible quotes at the top of every website, she had been completely deterred. She had literally given up on ever getting professional-level photos of her and her partner.

Fate loves to shake things up.

Story time!

My real passion is elopement photography.

Maybe this is just a weird me-thing, but I kind of love being the third wheel. It’s like a mini vacation into someone else’s romance. There’s really nothing like capturing the energy between two people who are totally obsessed with each other. Even better, when I get to watch them fall in love all over again.

Howdy howdy howdy! My name is Lexi Scott (she/her) and I’m the eyes behind Eye of Lexi Imagery. I specialize in bold story telling and documentary-style photography in 35mm Film and Digital. So you get a little nostalgia with your IG bangers.

Introductions are awkward. But so am I!

I don’t want to just take sexy, bold, beautiful photos - and I do ;) but I also want to be that safe haven for people who have never felt at liberty to seek a professional photographer. People of color, LGBTQ+ couples, neurospicy folks… these are my people!

[Take a peek at my portfolio!]

Just like with my first fateful couple, I want to take time to get to know you and let your personalities inform the photos. This is how you get truly unique and memorable images. Because I know it can be stressful to let a new person into your private world, I always keep my clients' comfort and joy as the number one priority. I’m not a one-size-fits-all pizza party type of photographer—I’m more like a little photo-fairy documenting your amazing day, sprinkling extra pixie dust as needed to help your soar.

Our session will be fun, safe, and chill—because that’s what I would want if I was the client. If we’re spending 8-12 hours together, we gotta keep things light. No stress, no mess. Only good vibes here!
